Gianni & Origoni is a double winner at the 2026 IFLR Awards
London, June 12, 2025 – International law firm Gianni & Origoni has won two awards at the IFLR Europe Awards 2025, held in London and organized by the international publication IFLR – International Financial Law Review: “Deal of the Year – Loan” for the Enel-EFI transaction and “Impact Deal” for the MPS–Mediobanca takeover bid.
Here are the jury’s reasons:
DEAL OF THE YEAR: Loan
“The deal represents the largest sustainability-linked revolving credit facility in euros currently available on the market. The €12 billion facility, which replaced the previous credit line signed by Enel and EFI in 2021, was provided by 26 leading global financial institutions, with Mediobanca acting as the documentation and facility agent.”
Impact Deal – Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena / Mediobanca
The deal was highly complex and innovative in its execution, involving a fast-moving and contested takeover process under intense regulatory scrutiny, exposing gaps in Italian tender offer rules and requiring careful navigation of FSR approvals, capital markets structuring and shareholder dynamics. It triggered a new wave of consolidation in the Italian banking sector and set a precedent for future large-scale public M&A transactions in highly regulated financial markets.”
The international publication IFLR (International Financial Law Review) regularly publishes analyses, expert opinions, and best practices on financial regulation, M&A, ESG, and related areas, and is a key reference point for market participants.
The awards presented by IFLR focus on innovation in the legal sector, with particular attention to innovation in cross-border transactions.
GOP has previously been recognized by the publication, receiving the following awards: Deal of the Year – M&A (2024) – Avolta/Autogrill; Deal of the Year – M&A – Euronext/Borsa Italiana (2022); Corporate Firm of the Year – Italy (2021); Most Innovative Law Firm of the Year (2019); Loan Deal of the Year – ChemChina/Pirelli (2016); Structured Finance and Securitisation Deal of the Year – KKR/UniCredit/Intesa Sanpaolo NPL platform (2016); Law Firm of the Year (2004, 2006, 2010, and 2011).
