Charleston, W.Va. — Spilman Thomas & Battle (Spilman) announced that Michael J. Basile recently was reelected as Managing Member of the law firm. He has held this leadership position for more than two decades, guiding Spilman through a period of sustained growth.

Under Basile’s leadership, Spilman has evolved from a West Virginia-based law firm to a super-regional law firm serving clients throughout the country. Today, the firm includes nine offices and nearly 140 attorneys working seamlessly together via strategic IT investment. The team is experienced in virtually every substantive area of law – positioning Spilman as a full-service firm with 160+ years of experience and all eyes on the future.

In addition to his leadership role at Spilman, Basile also contributes to the broader community through an active law practice. His areas of focus are state and local government law, business expansion and development, land use planning, and administrative law centering on economic and community development.

Throughout his career, Basile has drafted and promoted legislation and administrative rules before the West Virginia Legislature and Executive Branch, negotiated business site locations, crafted public-private partnerships, established U.S. operating entities for international clients, and facilitated foreign trade zones.
