The award ceremony took place on May 7 in São Paulo, Brazil, and both recognitions were received by Marianela Ferrer, Vice President of Communications & PR at Morgan & Morgan, on behalf of the firm.
Pro Bono Project of the Year Food Waste Law
This recognition highlights Morgan & Morgan’s contribution to the drafting and passage of Law No. 514 of April 1, 2026, which establishes Panama’s first comprehensive framework to prevent food loss and waste. Through the legal advice provided to the Food Bank of Panama (BAP), the organization that led this initiative, and under the leadership of partner Mayte Sánchez, Morgan & Morgan delivered pro bono legal support to transform this vision into a viable and effective legislative proposal, drawing on international standards and successful experiences from other jurisdictions.
Deal of the Year – M&A: Private Companies Scotiabank Transfers Several Latin American Operations to Davivienda
This recognition acknowledges the legal advice provided by Morgan & Morgan to Banco Davivienda Panama in a landmark transaction that completed its integration with Scotiabank in Panama. This strategic transaction required in‑depth knowledge of the Panamanian and regional regulatory framework, as well as the involvement of a multidisciplinary team led by partner Roberto Vidal, alongside partners Ana Carolina Castillo, Jose Rafael Reyes, and Sophia Lee; senior associate Maria Eugenia Brenes; and associates Ariana Linares, Angélica Ortiz, David Ramos, Katia Pallares, Arantxa Fernandez, and Perla Piña.
