Profile

Mónica Lasquibar is a senior associate in the Litigation and Arbitration practice area.

Mónica specializes in arbitration (both national and international) and domestic litigation in matters related to banking, construction, infrastructures, energy and the sale and purchase of companies.

She has extensive experience as an investment arbitration lawyer (including arbitration under the Energy Charter Treaty) and in commercial arbitration, all substantiated under the rules of the principal arbitration courts (such as the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce and the Civil and Commercial Arbitration Court) and related to investments and/or projects located in Spain, France, Luxembourg, the UK, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Japan and the US.

She has also advised and represented multinational companies and foreign governments in national court proceedings for the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and awards, as well as in court proceedings to set aside arbitral awards.

She coached classes in Litigation and Arbitration as part of the Combined Master's Degree in Business Law and Access to the Legal Profession at the University of Navarra between 2015 and 2017. She also led seminars on international commercial arbitration at Centro Universitario de Estudios Financieros "CUNEF" in the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 academic years. And she participated, as coach of the CUNEF team and as arbitrator, in Editions VI-IX of the International Competition of Arbitration and Commercial Law (Moot Madrid) and in the Spanish round of the '2017 Philip Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition'.

Mónica Lasquibar is a member of the Madrid Bar Association and of the Spanish Arbitration Club.

Co-author of several books and manuals, including most notably the chapter entitled 'The Arbitrator. The Power of the Courts (both of law and arbitral) to Review and Correct the Arbitrator's Assessment. Award of June 21, 2017 and Supplementary Ruling of September 6, 2017 of the Civil and Commercial Court of Arbitration' (*) published in the manual 'Contentious Practice for Lawyers - The Most Significant Litigation and Arbitration Cases of the Major Firms in 2017 (*); and the chapter on the Resolution of Disputes related to International Construction Projects included in 'Construction and Infrastructure Dispute: a global handbook' (2013).
