Profile

Lu Liu, Ph.D., is a patent agent (limited recognition) in the Intellectual Property Group. She assists the attorney team and intellectual property clients in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications with a focus on chemical, materials, and life sciences.

Lu works on a wide array of technologies including:

  • Materials science, such as polyolefins, adhesives, wire and cable coating materials, nanomaterials

  • Therapeutics, such as vaccines, antibodies, protein therapeutics, probiotics, and gene therapies

Lu's core technical experience is in the fields of organic chemistry. She has more than 8 years of experience as a research scientist and has authored scientific research and review papers/book. As an undergraduate, she worked on the synthesis of quinabactin for the study of increasing drought tolerance in plants. As a graduate student, she worked on the methodology development of (i) diasterio- and stereoselective synthesis of fluorinated amine stereotriads for the production of fluorinated pyrrolidines and unnatural amino acids and (ii) visible-light-initiated intramolecular regio-, chemo-, and stereoselective addition of amidyl radicals to allenes for the formation of ?- and d-lactams.

Throughout her graduate studies, Lu served as a research mentor to multiple domestic and international undergraduate/graduate students and also served as a teaching assistant for undergraduate organic chemistry lectures and labs. While fulfilling her duties as a teaching assistant and research mentor, she has presented her work at international conferences and published research/review articles in multiple peer-reviewed journals including Chemical Reviews, Organic Letters, Chemistry - A European Journal, and Crystal Growth & Design.
