Profile

Kevin thrives where advocacy is most demanding, whether in a fast-moving jury trial or on appeal before a panel of judges. Drawing on his experience as a federal prosecutor and government counsel in high-profile investigations, Kevin helps clients in complex trials, appeals, and government investigations. Kevin has tried criminal and civil cases to juries, argued before the US Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and Eleventh Circuits, prepared Supreme Court and appellate briefs, handled dozens of contested motions and hearings in state and federal courts, and represented clients in civil, criminal, and congressional investigations.

Kevin's career spans private practice and public service, giving him a unique perspective on litigation. In private practice, Kevin represents clients in trial and appellate courts nationwide, advocating on issues ranging from constitutional law to complex commercial litigation. As an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, Kevin investigated and prosecuted fraud, weapons, drug, and child-exploitation offenses. He later served as Investigative Counsel to a House Select Committee. In that role, he conducted interviews and depositions, briefed Members and their staff, coordinated the presentation of evidence for hearings, and contributed to the Committee's final report.

Kevin is a meticulous legal writer who believes that the most persuasive advocacy starts on the page. Whether drafting a complex appellate brief, structuring a trial motion, or distilling legal principles for a client, he approaches writing with the same precision and strategic focus that he brings to oral advocacy. His commitment to clear, compelling legal argument has been recognized throughout his career-he served as a Lead Articles Editor of the William & Mary Law Review, earned the firm's top writing award as a junior associate, and continues to refine his craft through amicus briefing and high-stakes motions practice. He also enjoys exploring legal reasoning and doctrine outside of casework, whether mentoring students in appellate advocacy or discussing Fourth Circuit jurisprudence on Holding Fourth, Hunton's appellate-focused podcast. Kevin is a member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference and the Local Rules Advisory Committee of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

A native Virginian, Kevin graduated from James Madison University with undergraduate and master's degrees and worked as a high school social studies teacher before attending law school. After graduating first in his class at William & Mary Law School, Kevin served as a law clerk to the Honorable John A. Gibney, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and then to the Honorable Robert B. King of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Following his clerkships, Kevin began his career as a litigation associate in the firm's Richmond office. Kevin maintains an active pro bono practice and has represented pro se litigants with constitutional and civil rights claims in the Fourth Circuit and the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia.
