Profile

Juan Pablo Obaid is a senior associate of the Tax Law practice area of the firm´s Santiago de Chile office.
He mainly focusses on providing tax advice and consultancy to domestic and foreign clients, and on restructuring and reorganization processes, international taxation, and tax litigation, in both administrative (before the Chilean Internal Revenue Service) and judicial (before the Tax and Customs Courts) jurisdictions.
Juan Pablo Obaid worked as an International Associate of the Global Transaction Tax team at Alvarez & Marsal, New York, United States of America (2020-2021), and before joining Garrigues Juan Pablo worked at Deloitte Chile, in the Tax & Legal group (2014-2015).
In the academic field, he has served as assistant lecturer on the Law, Economics and Markets I & II courses (2012) at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and as a professor and academic coordinator of the Tax course of the Legal Training for Workers and Employers Program (2013-2019) run by this same university. He is a teaching assistant of Tax Law I and Tax Law II courses at Universidad de los Andes, Faculty of Law (2017 to date).
On the other hand, he was a member of the Tax Law Yearbook team at Universidad Diego Portales (2015 - 2019).

Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation, with a certificate in International Taxation, from Georgetown University, Washington D.C. (2020)
Awarded with Leonard B. Terr Memorial Scholarship (full-tuition scholarship) by Georgetown University along with Baker & McKenzie law firm
