Juan Luis Zayas has been a partner of the Tax Department at Garrigues since 2003, where he has developed his professional career after having worked at Arthur Andersen, which he joined in 1991. He specializes in tax law, particularly providing advice on M&A transactions and wealth planning. He is also the partner in charge of the Family Business practice at the Madrid office.

Juan Luis is an expert in the analysis and planning of investment and disinvestment structures and corporate reorganizations (mergers, divisions and contributions). He regularly participates in acquisitions and transfers of companies, restructuring of corporate groups and implementation of acquisition structures in private equity transactions. By sectors, Juan Luis is a prestigious specialist in tax advice to companies in the renewable energies sector, real estate groups and hotels.

As partner in charge of the Family Business area, he specializes in the tax planning of wealth and business successions, advice on the reorganization of family groups, preparation of family protocols and, in general, advice on legal and tax matters pertaining to family businesses and high net worth individuals. In this area, he also regularly collaborates with the leading Spanish and foreign private banking entities and family business associations.

From 2008 to 2012, he has appeared repeatedly in the Chambers & Partners international directory as a leading lawyer in the Wealth Management practice.

He is a lecturer on the Master's in Tax Advice program ("Business Restructuring Transactions" section), the Executive Master's in International Taxation program ("International Reorganizations") and the Executive Master's in Business Law program ("Taxation of Corporate Transactions: special regime") at Centro de Estudios Garrigues.

Additionally, Juan Luis is a habitual guest speaker at seminars and conferences at universities and specialized centers (Universidad de Alcalá de Henares, IFAES, IEB, IFE, etc.) and at different associations and entities (Banesto, La Caixa, Adefam, AEF-CLM).

Education

Degree in Law from Universidad Complutense, Madrid, and member of the Madrid Bar Association.
