Profile
Joe Mueller is a senior attorney in the firm’s Litigation and Government Enforcement & Investigations practice groups. He is a litigator and counselor who draws on his extensive experience in both federal and state government.
Prior to joining Bradley, Joe served as an attorney for the Federal Trade Commission, where he handled complex consumer protection investigations and enforcement actions. He managed investigations spanning a variety of industries, from payment processing and e-commerce to multi-level marketing. Joe was responsible for all stages of matters, from initiating and conducting investigations, through litigation or settlement. He served as lead attorney before the FTC and the Bureau of Consumer Protection. In addition, he regularly worked with other regulators and civil and criminal law enforcement agencies.
Before joining the FTC, Joe served as an assistant attorney general at the New York Attorney General's Office, where he ran some of the agency’s most significant affirmative litigations and investigations, with a focus on complex industries and emerging technologies. Joe served as lead counsel on cases involving online tax preparation, broadband internet, retail energy, telemedicine, and bond securitization. As trial counsel, he obtained the nation’s largest-ever consumer payout from an internet service provider, and he led litigation against a financial services company that resulted in a judgment of over $800 million. Joe also led a 50-state coalition’s investigation of a Fortune 500 tech company that resulted in nationwide recovery of over $140 million. In 2018, he received the Innovation in Law Enforcement Award for his work on the Virtual Markets Integrity Initiative and its report on cryptocurrency exchanges.
Prior to government service, Joe worked as a litigation attorney in the New York City office of a large international law firm, as well as at one of the city’s premier litigation boutiques. He is an experienced litigator who has handled numerous trials, arbitrations, and appeals. Joe also has advised and conducted internal investigations for clients on sensitive and complex legal, regulatory, and reputational matters.
