James represents companies and their officers and directors in a wide range of litigation matters nationwide, with a particular focus on corporate governance, state and federal securities laws, mergers and acquisitions, and contractual disputes and business torts. He defends clients in investigations by state and federal regulators, including the US Securities & Exchange Commission and Department of Justice. James also advises clients in connection with internal investigations on behalf of corporations, boards of directors, and special committees. His experience spans a variety of industries, including the financial services, technology, telecommunications, consumer products, energy, transportation, and utility sectors. In addition, James counsels clients regarding their corporate compliance and ethics programs, particularly with respect to anti-corruption and anti-bribery issues.

James maintains an active pro bono practice with an emphasis on representing clients in housing and immigration matters.

Prior to joining Hunton, James worked at another global law firm in Washington, DC. While at the University of Virginia School of Law, James served as an intern to The Honorable Liam O'Grady of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and The Honorable Dennis W. Shedd of the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
