Francesco Gianni is the Head of the Corporate/M&A department and one of the founding partners of Gianni & Origoni.
Always at the pinnacle of the rankings published by international legal directories, he is listed as "Star Individual" in the Corporate/M&A area by Chambers & Partners, in which he is described as "one of the best lawyers in the country", and is included in the "Hall of Fame" of The Legal 500, an accolade "of excellence” granted to professionals who have distinguished themselves by the consistency, quantity and quality of the praise they have received from their clients over the years.
Francesco is considered one of the top experts in M&A and structured finance in Italy, as well as the rest of Europe. He won the “Outstanding Contribution Award” at the Chambers Europe Awards.
Among the most recent awards:
• Lawyer of the Year at the Legalcommunity Corporate Awards 2022, 2020 and 2018.
• Lawyer of the Year - Corporate/M&A at the TopLegal Awards 2019, 2015 and 2013.
Furthermore, he has held for years the top positions in the ranking of the 50 best Italian business lawyers, released by Legalcommunity and published in the legal magazine "MAG."
After graduating in Law “maxima cum laude” from the University “La Sapienza” of Rome, he obtained an LL.M from the University of London, King’s College and an LL.M from the University of Michigan Law School. Early in his career, Francesco gained experience working in the U.S. for top law firms.
He delivers lectures at conferences all over the world and has been a contributor to many of the most prominent legal publications. He is a practicing member of the Italian Bar and is a member of the New York Bar.
Former Chair of the World Services Group (WSG) and of the International Bar Association (IBA) Senior Lawyers' Committee, he is member of the Advisory Board of the Southwestern Institute for International and Comparative Law (SWIICL) - now Center for American and International Law (CAILAW).
He speaks Italian, English and French.
