Profile

Danner Kline is an associate in the Litigation Practice Group whose practice focuses on complex commercial litigation. He represents clients in business disputes in federal and state court, with experience spanning motion practice, discovery, depositions, and trial support. He is particularly adept at getting up to speed in unfamiliar and complex areas of law, developing clear case themes, and translating complicated legal issues into persuasive written advocacy.

Danner has substantial experience drafting dispositive and other significant motions in high-stakes matters. His recent work includes a trademark infringement case in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, where he drafted briefing that resulted in summary judgment eliminating the opposing party’s claims for monetary damages and helped position the matter for a favorable settlement. He has also drafted a motion to dismiss asserting qualified immunity and prosecutorial immunity in a retaliatory prosecution case and supported discovery and motion practice in a complex breach-of-contract dispute. More broadly, his litigation experience includes brief-heavy federal court practice, oral advocacy, depositions, trial-team work, and analysis of complex statutory and regulatory issues.

In addition to his commercial litigation practice, Danner brings valuable intellectual property experience to disputes involving brands, trademarks, and unfair competition. He has worked on trademark disputes, infringement analyses, TTAB oppositions, and brand-protection matters, giving him a background that distinguishes him from many general commercial litigators when trademark-related business disputes arise.

Danner also maintains an active pro bono practice, representing clients in a variety of matters. His pro bono work includes representing death row inmates in Section 1983 litigation involving First Amendment, Second Amendment, and Eighth Amendment claims.

Before entering law school, Danner spent more than 20 years working across multiple industries, including information technology, municipal government, and the beverage industry. That experience gives him a practical business perspective that informs his work as an advocate and counselor.

Danner received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, where he served as an associate editor of the Cumberland Law Review, was a member of the Henry Upson Sims Moot Court Board and was a six-time Scholar of Merit. During law school, he completed judicial internships in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.

Danner is also the founder of Free the Hops, the grassroots movement that reformed outdated alcohol laws in Alabama and helped pave the way for the state’s thriving local brewing industry.
