Mr. Carr is a Partner in Buchalter's San Francisco office and a member of the Litigation Practice Group.

A proven first-chair trial lawyer, Mr. Carr has successfully tried numerous cases to verdict before juries, judges, and arbitrators. Mr. Carr has extensive experience leading complex, multi-party litigation from inception through trial.

Mr. Carr's recent successes include: securing an $80 million dollar recovery and indemnity for a public agency in energy-related litigation, obtaining an eight-figure trial verdict in a shareholder dispute and securing a unanimous jury verdict awarding millions in damages in a real estate case. Having served as lead trial counsel in cases spanning numerous industries and subject matters, Mr. Carr knows what matters in a case, and knows how to be efficient in achieving the best result.

Mr. Carr has particular expertise in commercial contract disputes, real estate litigation, fraud disputes, partnership disputes, trade secrets, large-scale mass tort matters, including wildfire cases and energy-related litigation involving public utilities and agencies. He represents emerging-growth and privately held companies, Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 corporations, public entities, financial institutions, national retailers, and leading businesses across a range of industries.

Mr. Carr is also frequently retained to represent court-appointed receivers in matters initiated by government agencies and financial institutions. He has substantial experience navigating the complex legal, operational, and financial issues that arise in receivership proceedings.

Drawing on extensive trial experience, Mr. Carr develops litigation strategies that maximize leverage, create favorable settlement opportunities, and advance his clients' business objectives. His combination of courtroom experience, aggressive advocacy, and practical judgment has led clients to entrust him repeatedly with their most consequential disputes.

Mr. Carr has been recognized by Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers for his accomplishments in Commercial Litigation, Intellectual Property Litigation, and Real Estate Litigation. He is a member of the Edward J. McFetridge American Inn of Court and the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association.

  • Obtained defense judgment for national retailer after arbitration of breach of lease claim.
  • Obtained a jury verdict and Court of Appeal judgment rejecting high 8 figure claim by "No Wall on the Waterfront" developer after San Francisco voters rejected the developer's luxury high-rise condominium project.
  • Representing national department store chain, prevailed at trial against shopping center owner seeking to invalidate co-tenancy rent provision.
  • Successfully defended corporate director accused of stealing trade secrets when moving to competing transportation business.
  • Obtained 7 figure settlement against insurer denying coverage for alleged director and officer malfeasance.
  • Obtained dismissal of trade secret claims for DNA sequencing company after plaintiff failed to identify trade secrets with reasonable particularity. Affirmed on appeal by the Ninth Circuit.
  • Negotiated favorable settlement of class action lawsuit for national bank alleged to be involved in a 9 figure Ponzi scheme.
  • Negotiated settlement of investor fraud case by having defendants pay back investor money misappropriated and used for improper purposes.
  • Obtained appointment of several court-appointed receivers for national bank for commercial property; Represented court-appointed equity receiver in fraud case filed by US Government, established claims process and liquidated domestic and international assets.
