Profile

Scott is a commercial litigation and arbitration lawyer with a focus on complex international and domestic disputes. He has advised clients across a variety of industries, including energy, mining, manufacturing, private equity, finance, gaming, pension and technology sectors. Scott also has experience working on matters involving anti-money laundering, cross-border litigation, shareholder, regulatory disputes, cryptocurrency, and the enforcement of foreign awards in Canada.

Scott has appeared in the courts of British Columbia and Ontario. He also has represented clients in international and domestic arbitrations seated in Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, India and the United Kingdom, as well as arbitration related court matters.

Prior to joining Lawson Lundell, Scott practiced international arbitration in the Hong Kong office of a global "magic circle" law firm and as a commercial litigation associate at a leading national law firm in Toronto.

Significant Accomplishments
* Successfully resolved a complex partnership dispute valued at $500 million in relation to a large, multi-tower real estate development, which involved two arbitrations and insolvency proceedings.
* Advised two oil and gas companies in an arbitration valued at over US$1.5 billion against the Government of India, in disputes arising out of two production sharing contracts.
* Counsel to a major global mining company in successfully resolving a complex arbitration proceeding arising out of the acquisition of two aggregate mines, processing facilities and related assets valued at over $70 million.
* Successfully represented an international pulp and paper manufacturer in relation to price review arbitrations under multiple long-term supply contracts valued at over $40 million.
* Successfully represented a global brand client in an international arbitration involving issues in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. Obtained an order of the tribunal declining jurisdiction over the main dispute.
* Successfully represented a US technology company in international arbitration proceedings related to alleged breaches of a long-term software development and technical services contract.
* Successfully resolved leasing disputes on behalf of an international energy company.
* Counsel to a leading Japanese steel manufacturer in a joint venture dispute relating to a production facility in Thailand.
* Successfully represented a global automotive company in international arbitration proceedings arising out of distribution agreements with an Indian party.
* Successfully represented an industrial company with respect to a traumatic brain injury claim involving two court actions and a proceeding before the Workers' Compensation Appeal Tribunal.
