Profile
Martha Jahn Snyder is an intellectual property litigator with significant experience in jury trials and arbitration hearings. With a focus on patent, trademark and trade secret litigation, Martha appreciates the extraordinary competitive advantage that intellectual property can give her clients. She is a quick learner who has mastered a range of technologies, from stem cells, telecommunications, and software, to snow plows, bucket molds, and sippy cups.
Martha's approach to litigation is proactive, organized, aggressive, and efficient, contributing to The BTI Consulting Group's recognition of Quarles as a "Litigation Powerhouse" on BTI's "Honor Roll" for "IP Litigation" and "Most Feared Litigation Firm."
Martha has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in reaching successful jury verdicts, including helping clients to obtain jury verdicts of $5.4M, $44.1M, and $940M. Martha also has helped clients obtain significant freedom-to-operate decisions following arbitration hearings, and eliminated multiple patent suits at the motion to dismiss phase based on well-placed arguments regarding unpatentability under 35 U.S.C. § 101. She has represented clients in federal district courts in Wisconsin, Texas, Colorado, California, Florida, Delaware, and Illinois, in the Seventh and Federal Circuit Courts of Appeals, and in front of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation.
Martha studied Operations Research and Industrial Engineering at Cornell University before going to law school, where she focused her studies on Tech Transfer.
Having been with Quarles & Brady since she was a second-year law student, Martha also has contributed to firm administration, most significantly through the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, and the summer associate program. She currently serves as chair of the Intellectual Property Litigation Group.
