Lauren Black is a partner with 15 years of experience representing companies and high-net-worth business clients in federal and state cases and arbitrations. 

Lauren represents her clients across a wide range of complex litigation matters, including disputes involving business divorces, breaches of contract, business fraud, conversion, violations of fiduciary duties, breach of noncompete covenants, theft of trade secrets, unjust enrichment, conversion, and business disparagement.

She litigates these types of contractual, business divorce, and other matters across all manners of industries, representing clients in connection with:

  • Real estate matters, including disputes relating to breaches of commercial lease agreements, disputes regarding TIAs, and HOA disputes.
  • Insurance matters, including disputes relating to MGA agreements and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Environmental matters, including cases brought by private parties and state regulatory agencies alleging contamination, representing both middle-market and Fortune 100 companies on the defense side.
  • Disputes involving manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, and retailers, including disputes involving MSAs, commissions agreements, vendor agreements, and UCC liens, and including representation of chemical manufacturers, machining companies, makers of oilfield and other equipment, and clothing retailers.
  • Healthcare matters, including disputes relating to breaches of consulting agreements and claims involving regulatory violations.
  • Disputes involving software and technology, including representation of startups, “gig economy” platforms, tech investors, and app developers.
  • Construction matters, including disputes involving multimillion-dollar projects across a range of industries, whether on the owner, GC, subcontractor, or supplier side.
  • Disputes involving the logistics industry, including disputes involving trucking companies, commercial storage facilities, and companies operating through the Port of Houston.
  • Disputes involving the hospitality industry, including disputes involving Houston-area restauranteurs).
  • Disputes involving private equity, including disputes involving credit agreements, LPAs, placement agreements, management agreements, and breaches of reps and warranties.
  • Disputes involving all aspects of the oil and gas and renewables sectors, including disputes relating to JOAs and supplier agreements, force majeure events, E&P projects, and gathering and purchase agreements.
  • Disputes involving professional services companies and wealth managers, including representation of companies on both sides of fiduciary litigation, disputes over client lists and confidential information, and business divorce disputes between professional services providers.

Lauren has achieved favorable results for her clients across the entire life cycle of disputes, whether by securing early dispute resolution or favorable settlement, or taking a case all the way through impactful presentation at bench trials, jury trials, and arbitrations. She focuses on practical, strategic, and efficient approaches, while remaining unafraid to take a case to trial.

Lauren takes pride in winning decisively, whether through an “eight-figure” jury award on the plaintiff’s side, highly advantageous settlements, or a “nine-figure” take-nothing judgment on the defense side.
