Profile
Juan Camilo Sánchez Gutiérrez is a senior associate in the tax department at Garrigues' Madrid office, where he specializes in international tax law and private equity transactions. He currently forms part of the Garrigues Digital group, a team which specializes in advising start-ups and entrepreneurs in the technology and digital economy sectors.
He provides ongoing international tax advice to Spanish groups on their investments abroad as well as to multinational groups with a presence in Spain.
He also has extensive experience advising foreign and local investment funds on their acquisitions of Spanish companies or projects (with special emphasis on renewable energy projects), including both the analysis and design of the purchase structure and the due diligence review prior to the purchase.
In addition to his time at Garrigues, he began his career at a law firm in Colombia (2006-2008) and he has completed a secondment in the tax department of Norton Rose Fulbright in London in 2016.
Juan Camilo is a member of the Madrid Bar Association and of the Superior Council of the Judiciary in Colombia. He is qualified to practice law in both Spain and Colombia.
Juan Camilo is co-author of the book "Taxation of Crypto Assets" (Walters Kluwer) with Álvaro de la Cueva. Juan Camilo has also published articles regarding the Digital Services Tax (DST).
