Profile

Alyce Katayama had more than 30 years of experience representing both institutional and individual clients, including boards of directors and senior executives, on a wide range of business issues in the health care industry. She also practiced in the immigration field, with a focus on professional and business immigrations matters, including for health care professionals. Alyce has chaired both the Health Law and Immigration Law Practice Groups at Quarles, supervising both strategic planning and day-to-day activities of those attorney groups. She had a proven ability to build partnerships, mentor others, create consensus, develop collaborations involving scientific and business groups, and work with regulators.

She was also an active research scientist in the field of assisted reproductive technology, with peer-reviewed publications in the scientific literature. She took a special interest in the evaluation and presentation of risk at the intersection of law and medicine. Alyce sought to bring the exactness of the scientific method to her practice of law, using her findings to build bridges and guard against regulatory overreach.

The primary concentration of Alyce's practice was the representation of hospitals and other health care providers, but she has experience in a wide variety of health law sub-areas, such as reimbursement, fraud and abuse, joint ventures, contracting, governance, accreditation, corporate compliance, credentialing and medical staff matters, managed care, and provider licensing. Alyce dealt regularly with issues surrounding the 340B Drug Discount Program, and the Sunshine Act. She also assisted health care entities in various sectors with internal investigations.

The first woman partner at Quarles & Brady, Alyce has always striven to serve as a bridge among individuals and groups from very different fields and perspectives.
